The NASCAR Cup Series will have a new companion event for its 11 October Bank of America Roval 400 weekend at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval. On Friday, the American Flat Track motorcycle series announced it would join the Roval 400 weekend with two races on the Dirt Track located outside the main speedway with races on 9–10 October. It will be the first time the two disciplines have raced on the same weekend at the same location.

“American Flat Track and NASCAR are the two most American and most iconic of all motorsports so we are delighted to be partnering with the team at Charlotte Motor Speedway to bring race fans this unprecedented and unique weekend of two and four-wheeled racing,” said American Flat Track CEO Michael Lock. “The Dirt Track at Charlotte is one of the favorite destinations for our teams and riders as the facilities are outstanding and the famous Charlotte red clay makes for high speed thrills all evening.”

The Dirt Track hosted AFT in 2016 and 2017. Bryan Smith, the 2016 Grand National champion, won the most recent running at the track in the AFT Twins class, while Brandon Price was victorious in the latest AFT Singles class race there.

AFT can be considered the NASCAR equivalent in the motorcycle racing world: both series run on primarily ovals and have been in existence for over six decades. Although the two disciplines have never shared a weekend until the Roval, AFT has raced on their own configurations at NASCAR tracks like Daytona International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway.

“At Charlotte Motor Speedway, we pride ourselves on hosting world-class race events and bringing out the very best entertainment for the fans,” track general manager Greg Walter stated. “With the addition of the back-to-back days of American Flat Track to an already action-packed Bank of America Roval 400 weekend, we’re looking forward to delivering on that promise in October and showing fans of both series why we’re known as America’s Home for Racing.”

The Bank of America Roval 400 weekend, which began in 2018 after spending much of its history on the Charlotte oval, also features the NASCAR Xfinity Series‘ support race the previous day.
